we are having issues with some payers accepting Z36.89 dx code for the 20 week u/s. This is the correct code to use right?

At 20 weeks you are screening for malformations so Z36.3 would be correct. The mapping for V28.81 is not an exact match as there is no longer a specific code that replaces the only V28.81, but Z36.3 is really the most correct code.

direct icd-9 mapping for V28.81 is Z36.89 this is why I was questioning this.

Per ACOG, 20 week US is Encounter for antenatal screening for malformations, Z36.3. That's what we are using.
