My physician who is a specialist ob/gyn wants to now charge for phone consults when she calls UCSF to discuss her patient's symptoms to determine further care. Usually this is when patient is sent to L&D for observation and my doc goes over to do a consult. She then will make a phone call and wants to charge for that now. There is no time documented in the chart. Just says she consulted Dr. ??? regarding the issue the patient has and what UCSF physician recommendation was. Can I bill using the 99446 code range. Interprofessional consultation or some other code for this? Or is it included in the hospital outpt consult code I use or admit code if patient was admitted?
Thanks

Sorry, but no a billable service as the 99446 code are billed by the person who gives the advice, not the person who is asking for it. This work would be part of the "coordination of care" element of an inpatient or outpatient consultation and included in that service.
