During a audit review we had a physician mention other practices were getting a higher E&M level(99215) with POP-Q evaluations. I had to look up what a POP-Q exam was!!!

Does any gyno clinic use a special format on appointments when their dr see's a patient that they do the measurements that is in POP-q exam?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

NO. The Pop-Q exam is just a more specific gyn exam and as such falls under the same rules that apply to all and is based the number of elements examined (1997 guidelines) or an extended exam of one organ system with additional organ systems/body areas (1995 guidelines). In all my years of auditing I have never upheld a 99215 for a POP-Q exam as medical decision making is not of high complexity which would also be required (unless the patient had many more co-morbidities to be dealt with that put her at risk for management options).
