Melanie ,
We have a new provider to our practice and she is trying to bill for injection of dye into vagina for a fistulogram done by radiology. Is there a billable code or Is it included with the actual procedure .
Thanks in advance

Unless the procedure the radiologist is going to report expressly includes contrast in the definition (and you will need to check with them on that billing code), the contrast material is separate and can be billed by the physician. Per the January 2010, CPT Assistant, "For the injection of contrast media for imaging, code 96374, Therapeutic, prophylactic, or diagnostic injection (specify substance or drug); intravenous push, single or initial substance/drug, may be reported. The ultrasound contrast agent Lumason should be reported separately using HCPCS Level II supply code Q9950 based on the number of milliliters administered." So be sure you know what was injected. If the code radiology is going to bill includes the contrast, you provider would instead bill that code with a modifier -52 for a reduced service.
