Our physician performed a LSC retroperitoneal sidewall dissection at the same time as a LSC Sacral Colpopexy , Sling, and LSC RSO. Can we bill 49010 for the dissection or would it be considered an integral part to the other procedures ? Our physician is adamant that 49010 should be billed in addition to . Thanks

After reading the op note, it is clear he did this resection to prevent injury to the ureters due to the large prolapse. Identifying adjacent structures to prevent injury is good surgical practice, but not a separately billable service.

can you scan and send? If so email it to me directly at nielynco@aol.com. But at the very least I would want to see what he wrote concerning the retroperitoneal dissection.

I have no way to send the operative report as an attachment , Is there any other way besides typing the entire operative report to get this to you? If not I will have to type it out . thanks

I would need to see the op report on this one to make a determination if the dissection was medically indicated, but 49010 is an open abdominal procedure and therefore cannot be reported if this additional dissection was required for another issue, but done laparoscopically.
