Good Morning Group,

Would I use the unlisted CPT code for this? Please advise. Thank you!

Procedure: Vestibular Anesthesia Testing

Indications: Vestibulitis

Procedure: Combination of benzocaine/lidocain/tetracaine cream prepared by pharmacy, and brought to clinic by patient. Patient placed in lithotomy position, and cream applied to vestibule with cotton-tip applicator. Instructed to attempt vaginal insertion within 4-6 hrs after cream application, and notify us of result. Patient tolerated procedure well.

Thank you Melanie, and welcome back! :)

My gut reaction that billing this as an unlisted procedure is going to get you a denial. I would simply bill for an E/M service as this is in keeping with CPT instructions in CPT on topical applications.
